COVID-19 Office Restrictions

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Board of Supervisors of Washington Township are taking proactive measures in an attempt to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Washington Township and the health of Township employees.

Effective immediately, access to the Township Office, the Township Tax Collector’s Office, Zoning Office, the Township Maintenance Garage and Township employees will be restricted. The public will have no access to the main vestibule area of the Municipal Building. Township employees and Supervisors will continue to work and may still be reached via telephone and email. Contact information is available on the Township website at or you can call the Township office at (724) 929-6333 and leave a message with the answering service. Zoning phone number is (724) 434-8431.

During this time, tax payments may only be made by mailing your payment. The Tax Collector’s office will be available to answer resident questions by phone at (724) 929-4965, will continue to process payments, and will provide paid receipts for tax payments via the mail if you provide a self addressed, stamped envelope.

Disaster Emergency Declaration

A Disaster Emergency Declaration has been issued by the Washington Township Supervisors due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic. This declaration identifies the existence of a public health local disaster emergency in Washington Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania and gives the Township Supervisors, in conjunction with the Township Emergency Management Coordinator, the authority to suspend such regulatory requirements deemed necessary to respond to this disaster emergency and to conduct Township business.   Please see the full declaration below.

Open Positions for Secretary and Police Chief

The Washington Township Supervisors are seeking applications for a full time Secretary to work in the office Monday through Friday.  Daily responsibilities will include greeting visitors, answering incoming phone calls, and emails, purchasing office supplies and maintaining inventories, and serving as the point of contact for the Township residents, businesses, and government officials.  Applicants are required to have three or more years of experience in office administration, a notary license, and a high school diploma.  Other expectations include:

*Overseeing general day to day office operations

*completing and maintaining Human Resources forms, payroll, grant applications, and other Township reports

*Collaborating with auditors and supervisors on the annual budgets and audits for the Township.

*Financial responsibility including writing checks, making deposits, and completing financial reports

*Computer proficiency including programs such as Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, and Outlook

*Taking and drafting the monthly meeting minutes

The Washington Township Supervisors are seeking applications for a Full time Chief of Police.  Daily Responsibilities will include managing all officers in the department, conducting and supervising training, and managing all daily operations for the police department including writing and reviewing reports and issuing instructions regarding current investigations.  Applicants are required to have three or more years of experience in police administration and certification in law enforcement.

*Establishment and maintenance of a healthy working environment for all personnel

*Assisting with developing new policies, procedures, and regulations within the department

*Proficient written and verbal communications skills

Performing public relations duties and attending meetings and press conferences as needed

*Computer proficiency, specifically in writing and reading reports and reviewing crime statistics, graphs, and other important documents

Lien Letters

Washington Township requires a lien letter for property lien information.  The fee is $25, payable to Washington Township Supervisors, 1390 Fayette Avenue, Belle Vernon, PA  15012.

Effective March 13, 2019 Washington Township requires a dye test for any property sale, transfer or  refinance. Details are included in the lien letter.


Washington Township has a new burning ordinance effective July 10, 2019. Burning is no longer permitted in residential areas except in certain specific instances.

Effective January 1, 2018, Big’s Sanitation is the residential hauler for Washington Township.

Garbage pickup is Monday or Wednesday, depending on your area.

Veteran’s Memorial Sidewalk Brick Project

This is a fundraiser for the Washington Township Memorial Park, sponsored by the Washington Township Veterans Committee and the Fayette City/Washington Township Lions Club.  The bricks will be installed on the sides of the walkway approaching the Veterans Memorial.
